BOOK SHELF STYLING
Styling a bookcase can be a tricky affair if you do not have enough books to fill up all the shelves.
It can turn out to look too sparse or busy and cluttered if its not planned well.
The key to the overall look is how to pull the accessories together with the books to create an aesthetically pleasing result.
A good balance between books, accessories and art |
LAYERING ART- Inter spacing your books with art, sculptures and picture frames with some of your favorite memories adds a personal and warm touch to the bookcase. It gives your shelving a custom look that is specific only to you.
Use the 1/3rd rule, use 1/3rd books, 1/3 pictures and 1/3rd accessories intermixed to make it visually interesting.
Alternate the direction and stagger the height of the books |
SIDE EFFECT- Turn books on their side and stack them up leaving space around them for art and collectibles.
Show of your collection |
READING RAINBOW. Sort your books by color, black and red creates more drama in your book shelf.
Keep it simple, clean and uncluttered |
GO BOLDER AND BIGGER- Lots of small items look like clutter, so place them on books to give them a larger visual presence. Step back often to see if your eye is drawn evenly around the bookcase.
Mix it up |
Alternate the height of objects |
ADD THAT POP. Transform a boring bookcase by using a patterned wallpaper, mirror, wood or paint on the back panel.
Paint the back to give it some contrast |
Wallpaper the back to make it dramatic |
Add wood planks to the back for a more rustic look |
Put a chalk board for a fun look |
